ASCE Rails
ASCE Rail Sizes Supply from AGICO

ASCE rail specifications are typically named according to their weight per yard (pounds). This standard covers a range of specifications from light to medium-duty Tee rails, with major models including ASCE 25, ASCE 30, ASCE 40, ASCE 45, ASCE 60, ASCE 80, and ASCE 85. For example, ASCE 25 refers to rails weighing 25 pounds per yard; ASCE 60 refers to rails weighing 60 pounds per yard. AGICO can supply ASCE rails in all sizes for various applications.

What is ASCE Rail
ASCE Rails are an older type of Tee section type rail characterized by their small cross-section and light weight. They are suitable for light-load industrial rails operating under low to medium axle loads, and are applicable to mining and industrial applications. AGICO manufactures ASCE rails in all sizes, as well as other common standards such as UIC rails, AREMA rails, and BS rails.
ASCE Rail History: ASCE Rail refers to a series of early American rail section standards developed by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), which primarily defined the cross-sectional dimensions and theoretical weight of rails. Although it has been superseded by the more modern AREMA (American Association of Railroad Engineers and Maintenance) standards, it remains widely used in mining rails, light industrial rails, port industrial transportation, and small railroads in North and South America at present.
Steel Material Grades for ASCE Rail
Although the cross-sectional shapes, weights, and dimensions of ASCE 25–80 rails all follow traditional design, ASCE rail products produced now use high-purity carbon steel, which is produced by the modern iron smelting process, from open-hearth furnace to Basic Oxygen Furnace / Electric Arc Furnace. Since the steel has higher performance of purity and significantly more stable. Microalloying and appropriate heat treatment processes will further make improves its strength, wear resistance, and service life, which is significantly superior to the rail materials of ASCE rails in the old days.

The steel materials for ASCE rail production is designed with ordinery carbon steel standards, the steel grades includes the following 3 types:
- ASTM A1 (Carbon Steel Rail): Applicable to light rail (including ASCE).
- ASTM A759 (High-Strength Rail Steel): Used in some export regions.
- National or enterprise standards (such as China's Q235B/Q275, 55Q, etc.)

ASCE 20–80 Steel Rails Classified by Application
The models of ASCE rails can be classified by application due to their application: there are light-weight ASCE rails for industrial and mining tracks, and heavy-weight ASCE rails for crane runways and heavy-duty low-speed industrial tracks.
ASCE Rails Models for Industrial and Mining Rails
The light-weight ASCE 20-40 rails have small sizes and strength, which are mainly used in light-duty applications of mining tracks and industrial rails. Here are the details of their weight and applications:
| Rail Type | Weight (lb/yd) | Weight (kg/m) | Typical Application | Mixed-Use Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ASCE 20 | 20 | 9.9 | Light mining track, small industrial rails | For hand carts or light mine cars only |
| ASCE 25 | 25 | 12.4 | Mining tramways, light industrial transport | Cannot sustain crane wheel loads |
| ASCE 30 | 30 | 14.9 | Factory internal tracks, trolleys | Insufficient head strength for cranes |
| ASCE 40 | 40 | 19.8 | General industrial rails | Strength too low for crane service |
| ASCE 50 | 50 | 24.8 | Medium-duty industrial track | May be used for very light cranes but not recommended |
ASCE Rails Models for Crane Rail
ASCE 60-80 rails are featured with large size and weight, which can be used for heavy-duty industrial rails and light-duty crane runway rails, here are the details of their weight and applications in table:
| Rail Type | Weight (lb/yd) | Weight (kg/m) | Typical Application | Mixed-Use Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ASCE 60 | 60 | 29.8 | Industrial rails, light-duty crane runways | Common for 5–10 ton bridge cranes |
| ASCE 70 | 70 | 34.7 | Medium industrial track, light gantry cranes | Partially interchangeable with BS 75A (check fit) |
| ASCE 75 | 75 | 37.2 | Industrial cranes, small mining cranes | Often used for 10–15 ton crane runways |
| ASCE 80 | 80 | 39.7 | Factory crane runways, medium-duty tracks | Can substitute for BS 75A or BS 80A with design checks |
