Wooden Sleeper

Wooden Sleeper
In rail track structure, rail sleeper functions by withstand forces passed from steel rails and pass them to rail bed evenly, maintain steel rail position, direction and gauge. Wooden sleeper is featured with necessary sturdiness, elasticity and durability, and ease of maintaining, and ability to resist longitudinal and lateral displacements
Wooden Sleeper Types:

According to the structure and laying method, wooden sleeper is classified into Horizontal sleeper, Longitudinal sleeper and short sleeper; according to its application location: ordinary wood sleeper, bridge sleeper and pillow. Wooden sleepers manufactured by AGICO are mainly made of southern pine or Mongolian pine, and all sleepers are produced with traditional oil treatment. By the applications, wooden sleeper can be divided into three types: treated wooden sleeper for normal track, treated wooden sleeper for turnout, treated wooden sleeper for bridge.
Wooden Sleeper for Normal Railway Line
Common wooden sleeper is used in the main line of railway track. GB standard has 2 types: type I with 16cm×22cm×250cm; type II with 14.5cm×20cm×250cm.

Why Wooden Sleeper is Used in Rail Track

Wooden sleeper has the advantages of good elasticity, light weight, simple production, good insulation performance. The connection between the fastener and the wooden sleeper is simple, and the laying and maintenance are convenient and the transportation is convenient. There is a large friction coefficient between the wooden sleeper and the gravel ballast.
However, its disadvantage is that it has a shorter life span and consumes more wood resources. In order to effectively extend the service life, wooden sleepers are generally produced with oil-injection and anti-corrosion treatment.
