NXG-4 Rail Grinder Introduction

NXG-4 Rail Grinder for Rust Removal

The Internal Combustion Type NXG-4 Rail Grinder for Rust Removal is suitable for surface rust removal on various types of railroad rails. By installing a grinding wheel or steel brush, it can also be used for rail head grinding operations. It is a specialized rail grinding machine for solving poor rail circuit shunting problems.

NXG-4 model rail grinder is designed to meet the requirements of relevant railway industry standards and is an essential tool for track overhaul, maintenance, and emergency repair operations of railway engineering departments.

Featuring a reasonable design, compact structure, simple operation, flexible on/off-track movement, easy transportation, safe use, wide application range, and multi-function capability, this NXG-4 rail grinder is highly practical for on-site railway maintenance work.

Main Technical Parameters of NXG-4 Rail Grinder

AGICO supplies various models of railroad rail grinding machines, also known as rail grinders, it can be classified into internal combustion type and electric type by the power difference. NXG-4 rail grinder belongs to the internal combustion type, it is a small type rail grinding machine for rust removal works, it can be used with single machine for one rail grinding, or added with a conncection bar, you can group 2 NXG-4 rail grinders for rail grinding at both sides at the same time. Our rail grinding machines are suitable for all types of railroad tracks and has been exported to Asian areas, African countries and European countries.

Working Principle of NXG-4 Rail Grinder

When NXG-4 rail grinder is turned on, the gasoline engine transmits power to the steel wire brush through a synchronous belt pulley, driving the brush or grinding wheel to rotate at high speed of 3600r/min. The grinding wheel feed is adjusted by the handwheel, allowing controlled contact with the rail surface to achieve effective rust removal or grinding.

Basic Structure of NXG-4 Rail Grinder

The NXG-4 rail grinder machine mainly consists of the following components (see structure diagram):

  1. Clamping Frame and Handle
  2. Internal Combustion Engine
  3. Steel Wire Brush
  4. Traveling Wheel
  5. Grinding Wheel Feed Adjustment Mechanism

Operation and Maintenance Tips for NXG-4 Rail Grinder

Preparation for NXG-4 Rail Grinder Machine

5 Necessary Safety Measures Before Operation

  1. 1. Add gasoline and engine oil according to the engine manual. The oil level must be appropriate; excessive or insufficient oil may cause starting difficulties or engine seizure.
  2. 2. The Grinder for Rust Removal shall be operated by one person only.
  3. 3. Operators must wear appropriate personal protective equipment, such as safety goggles and gloves.
  4. 4. If grinding sparks may fall on or near flammable materials, protective measures must be taken in advance.
  5. 5. Turning the feed handwheel clockwise lowers the steel wire brush or grinding wheel; turning it counterclockwise raises it.

6 Tips for Prevention of Operational Accidents

  1. 1. The engine must be stopped before replacing the steel wire brush or grinding wheel.
  2. 2. Damaged steel wire brushes or grinding wheels must not be used.
  3. 3. After replacement, perform no-load test running for at least 30 seconds. During testing, other personnel must stay away from the operation area.
  4. 4. Regularly measure grinding wheel wear and check whether the steel wire brush and fastening nuts are loose.
  5. 5. The safety protective cover must be firmly installed at all times.
  6. 6. Steel wire brushes and grinding wheels shall be stored in a dry environment.
NXG-4 Rail Grinder Operation Tips

Operating NXG-4 Rail Grinder Step by Step

  1. 1. Place the rail grinder onto the rail and move it along the rail using the traveling wheels.
  2. 2. Start the engine:
    • Pull the throttle lever fully downward to open the choke (starting position);
    • After the engine starts, lift the throttle lever slightly upward to reach full-speed operation;
    • Lifting the lever further upward reduces engine speed;
    • The topmost position of the lever is the engine stop position.
  3. 3. During grinding, rotate the feed handwheel to adjust the feed rate according to actual conditions. The feed rate must not be excessive. Hold the handle firmly and push the machine forward slowly to complete the grinding operation.
  4. 4. After rail grinding is completed, rotate the feed handwheel counterclockwise to lift the grinding wheel, then move the throttle lever upward to stop the engine.
  5. 5. Bearings of the main shaft and traveling wheels shall be lubricated with grease regularly.

Precautions

NXG-4 Rail Grinder Supply

Here are the precautions while operating the NXG-4 rail grinder, which are key factors for the safety during rail grinding work.

  • Without installing a grinding wheel, check whether the grinding spindle rotates freely and ensure that protective cover bolts are securely fastened.
  • Before installing the grinding wheel, check that it is in good condition. After installation, tighten the nut securely and confirm the correct rotation direction.
  • After installing the rail and mounting the steel wire brush or grinding wheel, start the machine and perform a no-load operation for at least 30 seconds. Observe whether the wheel runs smoothly without wobbling or abnormal noise. If abnormalities occur, stop the machine immediately and eliminate the fault.
  • During operation, the grinding wheel feed must be controlled by the feed adjustment mechanism. Excessive feed is strictly prohibited to avoid safety hazards.
