NGM-4.8 Rail Profile Grinder for Sale

NGM-4.8 Rail Profile Grinder Introduction

The NGM-4.8 rail profile grinder is a rail grinding machine powered by a Honda gasoline engine. This rail grinder is a lightweight rail grinder model designed with a compact structure. It can be operated by a single operator, while requiring 2 operators, can easily lift it on and off the steel rail track. With adjustable grinding angles and a profiling mechanism, it enables accurate grinding of the rail head, rail side, and curved profiles, offering multi-function grinding capability in a single machine.

AGICO supplies 2 models of rail profile grinder – NGM-4.5 and NGM-4.8, which are suitable for grinding welded joints, uneven rail joints, rail side burrs, and rail surface repair areas of steel rails ranging from 43 kg/m to 75 kg/m.

The NGM-4.8 gasoline rail profile grinder uses a gasoline engine as the power source. As with other gasoline-engine rail grinders, when the rail grinder is started, the engine drives a centrifugal clutch that transmits power to a synchronous pulley. Power is then transferred via a timing belt to the main shaft, driving the grinding wheel to rotate at high speed for rail grinding works.
Grinding Control: Grinding control can be achieved by 2 types of handwheels to enable accurate rail profile grinding. The worker can use the feed handwheel to adjust grinding depth, and when grinding the rail side or curved rail profile, the profiling handwheel is rotated to guide the grinding head along the rail profile.

Main Components of NGM-4.8 Rail Profile Grinder

The NGM-4.8 model rail profile grinder has a compact structure. It is composed of profiling and feed handwheels, profiling and machine frames, a gasoline engine, traveling and guide wheels, and bolt-fixed grinding wheels. Here is the structure drawing of NGM-4.8 Rail Profile Grinder:

Operating NGM-4.8 Rail Profile Grinder

The operation of the NGM-4.8 rail profile grinder can be separated into the grinding process and after-grinding, while the grinding process includes rough grinding and fine grinding. After grinding is completed, the operator shall remove the rail profile grinder from the rail track and transport it for storage.

Rough Grinding ProcessRough Grinding Process
Rough Grinding for Steel Rail
  • Grinding work should start from the rail head surface. Place the rail grinder on the rail and move it back and forth along the rail.
  • Slowly lower the grinding wheel to grind the raised areas on the steel rail surface.
  • When the grinding depth reaches approximately 1 mm above the target rail surface, rotate the profiling handwheel and grind the rail side using the same method.

Fine Grinding for Steel Rail

  • After rough grinding, reposition the rail profile grinder for fine grinding.
  • Lower the grinding wheel until it just contacts the rail surface near the weld area that does not require grinding, using it as a reference.
  • Start fine grinding from the rail head surface, then rotate the profiling handwheel to grind the rail side.
  • The grinding range should extend at least 100 mm on both sides of the weld.
  • To compensate for grinding wheel wear, adjust the grinding feed as required during operation.

After Rail Grinding

  • After grinding is completed, rotate the feed handwheel counterclockwise to raise the grinding wheel away from the rail.
  • Reduce the throttle, close the fuel valve, and stop the engine.
  • Before removing the rail profile grinder from the rail track, reset the profiling frame to a vertical position relative to the rail grinder frame and secure it to ensure transportation safety.

Safety Precautions

The safety precautions for NGM-4.8 rail profile grinder is similar to other gasoline rail grinders supplied by AGICO, here are the details:

  1. Before rail grinding operation, engine oil must be added according to the gasoline engine instruction manual. Operation without sufficient oil is strictly prohibited.
  2. Grinding wheels with a rated speed lower than 4200 r/min must not be used.
  3. The machine must be completely stopped before replacing the grinding wheel.
  4. Never use damaged, cracked, or defective grinding wheels.
  5. After replacing the grinding wheel, run the machine at no load for at least 30 seconds. During the test run, all other personnel must stay clear of the working area.
  6. Before use, check that the grinding wheel is intact and ensure that all fastening nuts are securely tightened.
