How does DM-1.1 Rail Grinding Machine Work
The DM-1.1 rail grinding machine achieves precision grinding of rail end surfaces through the control of 3 aspects :
- Primary Grinding: The motor directly drives the bowl-shaped grinding wheel to rotate at high speed, providing cutting power.
- Axial Feed: Rotating the handwheel engages the internal lead screw-nut mechanism, moving the entire swing frame along with the motor to control grinding depth.
- Radial Feed: Operating the lever causes the swing frame to pivot around the guide rod axis within a certain angle, enabling the grinding wheel to perform radial (perpendicular to the rail axis) reciprocating grinding on the rail end surface.
Note: A structural schematic diagram should be inserted here for reference.
Main Components of DM-1.1 Rail Grinding Machine

- Power & Grinding Unit: Motor, bowl-shaped grinding wheel.
- Feed Mechanism: Handwheel (axial feed screw-nut), lever and swing frame (radial swing).
- Mounting & Positioning Mechanism: Concave rail hook, set screw, guide rod, positioning screw.
- Frame & Guards: Main frame, necessary protective covers.
Operating DM-1.1 Rail Grinding Machine
DM-1.1 Rail Grinding Machine Package
DM-1.1 Rail End Grinding Machine DeliveryBefore the rail grinding work, a series of check works shall be completed. The grinding wheel shall be inspected for cracks and damage, check the power cord, plug and ground wire connection. Check the rotation direction before install the grinding wheel.
Operating Steps for Rail End Grinding
The operation of DM-1.1 rail grinding machine is simple, the operator shall be well trained before the operation, user shall learn from the operation video or be trained by an experienced operator.
- Startup: Ensure the operation area is safe, then start the motor.
- Axial Feed: Slowly rotate the handwheel to bring the grinding wheel into contact with the rail end, beginning axial feed grinding. Apply feed evenly and in small increments to avoid impact.
- Radial Grinding: Simultaneously or alternately with axial feed, reciprocate the lever to swing the grinding wheel left and right across the end surface for radial grinding until the entire surface is covered.
- Process Observation: Observe grinding sparks and surface condition. Grind evenly until the entire end surface exhibits uniform metallic luster and the required flatness is achieved.
- Shutdown: After grinding, first retract the wheel from the workpiece, then turn off the motor power.
After Grinding, the operator shall remove the rail grinder from the rail track and turn off the main power, clean metal dust from the equipment using compressed air or a brush, especially from motor cooling fins and moving parts, put the rail grinder in a dry, clean toolbox.
Maintenance Before and During Operation
Maintenance of the DM 1.1 rail grinding machine differs before and during operation. Here are the details:
Before Operation
- Grinding Wheel Condition: Check for cracks and uneven wear.
- Electrical System: Inspect cable, switch insulation, and grounding reliability.
- Mounting Mechanism: Check concave rail hook for deformation, set screw thread smoothness, and the positioning screw effectiveness.
- Moving Parts: Check handwheel rotation and swing frame movement for smoothness and abnormal resistance.

- Lubrication Management: Every 2 hours of continuous operation, apply a small amount of No. 2 lithium-based grease to friction surfaces such as the lead screw, guide rod sliding surfaces, and nut thrust grooves to maintain smooth movement.
- Heat Control: Avoid prolonged continuous heavy-duty operation. Recommended: Stop for 5 minutes every 30 minutes to prevent excessive motor temperature rise (housing temperature should not exceed 80°C).
- Dust Removal: Periodically use compressed air to blow away iron dust accumulated in motor cooling fins and mechanism gaps.
Storage Requirement for Long Period
When DM 1.1 rail grinding machine is not in use for a long time, it shall be storaged in a dry, ventilated warehouse with temperature -10°C to +40°C, relative humidity ≤75%. And it shall be cleaned thoroughly and apply anti-rust oil to exposed metal surfaces (e.g., guide rod, lead screw). Grinding Wheel shall be removed for separate storage, and each month run the rail grinding machien unloaded for 15 minutes to dispel moisture and maintain electrical component condition.
