Railway fishplate Production Process

Production process of fishplate include following steps: hot rolling of steel bars, cut to length, reheat, drilling holes, cooling. The production doesn’t include furnish process, but this process is necessary before the installation.

Why Fishplate is Still Popular in Rail Track System?

Fishplate has other names:rail joint bar, track joint, which is the connection between the rails, using fishplate has one obvious advantage-no rail welding work is needed, and most of time, it is more reliable, time saving, and maintenance work is easy.

As to the other rail joint method-welding, the technology is developed now, but welding process workload of a railway line is huge and would cost more time. Moreover welding might cause flaws that will not occur in short time. Its maintenance work is still complicated than just replacing a piece of rail joint bar.

Tips on Installation of Compromise Joint Bar

• When using new compromise joint bar, you need to make sure its material meet with rail joint bar specifications; when using a used rail joint bar, it has to be inspected and accepted by engineer.
• Compromise joint bar is used to connect 2 steel rail with different dimensions, it is the weak link in railway track system, so the installation has to be perfect to guarantee rail joint section is connected well. For example, cracks, breaks or other flaws, bolt holes with excessive wear are not allowed, when all bolts are tight, vertical movement is permitted or not.
• Compromise joint bar lubricant shall have a petroleum base and contain a rust inhibitor
• Compromise joints shall be installed so opposite rail joints are staggered at least 1.5 m
• When joining rails of differing sizes with a compromise rail joint assembly, it shall be fitted so that the top of rail surface and the gauge face of the rails to be connected, are held in alignment. Bars must be installed, as markings indicate.
• When it is necessary to provide additional bolt holes, it shall be done only by drilling with a rail drill of appropriate size, no other method is permitted.
• Each compromise rail joint assembly shall be lubricated by spraying lubricating compound behind each joint bar as part of the installation procedure.
