Indian Railway Overview:

The Indian Railways (IR) is the fourth-largest railway network in the world - in terms of size, its total track length being 1,21,407 kilometer. Delivering more than 13,000 passenger trains on a daily basis, it is currently the railway with 8th-largest employer in the world, with more than 1.3 million employees (as of March 2017). The IR is divided into a total of 17 different zones and is further classified into 68 sub-divisions. There are around 15 main types of trains in India that are operated by the Indian Railways. The Duronto Express, which is a non-stop full AC train, having a top speed of 150 km/hr. Passenger trains, which are inter-city trains and have the maximum number of stops. They are economical as well. The Rajdhani Express, a group of superfast trains, which have minimal stops and an average speed of about 140 km/hr. Rajdhani trains are fully air-conditioned. The Garib Rath, which is a low-fare fully air-conditioned long-distance train. The Shatabdi Express, which are superfast chair car only trains that return to the originating station on the same day of departure. They are air-conditioned too.

Due to historical reasons, Indian railway has multiple dimensions of steel rails, so as rail fishplate and rail bolts, so it is possible to see different types of trains on different part of one railway line.

Indian Railway in Mountain Area

This site includes three railways. The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway was the first, and is still the most outstanding railway. Opened in 1881, its design applies bold and ingenious engineering solutions to the problem of establishing an effective rail link across a mountainous terrain of great beauty.

The construction of the Nilgiri Mountain Railway, a 46-km long metre-gauge single-track railway in Tamil Nadu State was first proposed in 1854, but due to the difficulty of the mountainous location the work only started in 1891 and was completed in 1908. This railway, scaling an elevation of 326 m to 2,203 m, represented the latest technology of the time.

The Kalka Shimla Railway, a 96-km long, single track working rail link built in the mid-19th century to provide a service to the highland town of Shimla is emblematic of the technical and material efforts to disenclave mountain populations through the railway. All three railways are still fully operational.

Fishplate Manufacture Methods: Machining and Casting

Machining fishplates and cast fishplates have relatively low load carrying capacity, and because they do not have a shoulder, they are extremely suitable for ballastless tracks, especially slab tracks. If separate rail fasteners are used, rail height adjustment is large. There are shoulder rail fasteners, concrete sleepers or concrete without dead angles. The lateral load transmitted by the rail is mainly absorbed by the concrete bearing groove shoulder, and the lateral load capacity is large. The lateral force is small, such as the use of separate rail fasteners, the rail height adjustment is larger. No shoulder rail fasteners. There is no bearing groove for concrete sleepers or concrete omnidirectional roads.
